Hello Prospective Employee,

Thank you for your interest in Our Early Childhood Facility. Here at Sunshine and Stars we provide First, Second and Saturday family based care for children Young Toddlers to School Age. We have great parent reviews and support our staff and families in all ways that we can.

If you are interested in employment please fill out the state staff date form listed below and return it and supporting documents by mail or in person as listed below. Additional documents maybe needed depending on your position. For employment in our licensed child care centers you will need at the minimum below items to be sent with the state staff data form, do not call to ask about an interview unless paperwork is obtained.  -At least two written professional references (Teachers need to have references from previous child care/preschool)

-Documentation of at least 2,500 hours working with children (child care setting preferred)

-Directors, Group Supervisors/Assistant Group Supervisor Leads should have 3000 hours documented experience in the child care setting

-Proof of College Diploma and Transcripts (Preferred Associates Degree In Early Childhood)

-Pediatric First Aid and CPR

-PA Mandated Reporter Training

-15 hour Staff Orientation from Penn State Better Kid Care (preferred prior to start)

Each Summer We hire a few new employees for the Summer Program. These positions are for the summer, though can lead to future employment for great, professionals.

Van/Vehicle Driver for Summer Field Trips

-$10 per hour, higher rate if ECE Associates Degree/Experience

-Must be available MTH 9-3 for travel field trips at the minimum

Our center and the quest for continuous quality we require all directors, teachers, lead teachers and assistant group supervisor to exceed the state minimum requirement for experience with children in that, the following positions must have experience in the early childhood child care field. Experience in the school district or babysitting is not enough. We are a early childhood program and early childhood programs need committed and educated persons in the ECE field for the structure and well being of the children in care.

The aide position needs to meet the state requirement for experience with children which may include child care, babysitting or volunteer positions with children.

The following are state requirements that have been amended for our centers employment

Experience with children is a must, depending on your position will determine the minimum required hours. For purposes of calculating, 1 year of child care experience is a minimum of 1,250 clock hours.

All staff are required to have a criminal background check and child abuse check before employment and FBI check less than one year old.

PA CODE § 3270.31. Age and training.

A volunteer shall be 16 years of age or older.

A staff person shall be 18 years of age or older.

An individual 16 years of age or older who is enrolled in an approved training curriculum may be used as a staff person, if the following guidelines are met:

(1) The curriculum is conducted by an institution approved by the Department of Education and accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council on Postsecondary Education and acceptable to the Department of Education.

(2) The curriculum includes acceptable training topics which are listed in the DPW regulation book. Your director will review with you.

(3) The curriculum includes a minimum total of 600 clock hours, distributed as follows:

(i) A minimum of 400 clock hours of classroom training.

(ii) A minimum of 200 clock hours of supervised training in a child day care facility.

(4) A representative of the training institution certifies in writing that the individual has completed the required classroom training and is currently enrolled in the curriculum.

PA CODE § 3270.37

(2) A minimum of an 8th grade education and enrollment in a training curriculum described at § 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training). The classroom training portion of the curriculum shall be completed. Documentation of completion of classroom training and continuing enrollment in the training curriculum shall be included in the staff person’s file.

All staff persons are required to obtain an annual minimum of 6 clock hours of child care training.

First-aid and Fire safety are also state requirements

Water safety and Lifeguarding will be needed depending on your position.

Director qualifications and responsibilities.

- A director is responsible for the general management of the facility, including the following minimum duties:

(1) Administering finances, personnel, maintenance, meal planning and preparation and transportation.

(2) Administering the facility’s program objectives and activities.

(3) Designating a staff person who is responsible for compliance with this chapter in the Director’s absence.

(4) Coordinating and planning daily activities with the group supervisors or with the assistant group supervisors in school-age program.

(5) Overall program planning.

(6) Written evaluation of staff persons

-A director shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:

1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 year of experience with children at the supervisory level.

2. An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children at the supervisory level.

Group supervisor qualifications and responsibilities.

- A group supervisor is responsible for the following minimum duties:

(1) Planning and implementing daily program activities.

(2) Coordinating activities of assistant group supervisors and aides.

(3) Assisting the director with designated activities.

- A group supervisor shall have attained the following qualification

1. An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3,000 hours of documented experience with children assisting or teaching in the ECE classroom.

Assistant group supervisor qualifications

1. A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years experience with children.

2. A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.

3. CDA-Child Development Associate Credential and 2 years experience with children

Persons in the position of Director, Group Supervisor, Assistant Group Supervisor at the level of lead person may from time to time, be put in a lead position that requires them to observe and document with written or oral discussion about the children, staff or facility with the director or owner. This is part of your job requirement and must be kept confidential. If discussed else where, this is a breach of your contract.

Aide qualifications

A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years of experience with children.
